Walker of the Wilds - Faewynn of Gladden

This outfit is my tribute to the days when the level cap was 65. There was such a variety of end-game gear to wear at the time. There were sets from Helegrod, the Moria instance cluster, Barad Guldur, Ost Dunhoth, and Dâr Narbugud, each with a distinct and awesome looking experience. So far, three of those sets have been made easily available through skirmish-earned medallions and marks. The teal Moria sets still need Moria Medallions and the Watcher Tokens. The full teal DN sets are only available through the special elfstones earned in the raid. You can get some cosmetically similar gear from the class vendors in Mirkwood, but only the head, shoulders, and boots. I say we petition Turbine to make the DN sets available in the skirmish camps since they're obsolete stat-wise!

But I digress. Back to the outfit at hand!

Going through the various level 65 pieces earned through raiding and the In Their Absence instance chain (pre-U11), I managed to create something decent-looking. Many of the Ost Dunhoth pieces make me think of cold weather outfits--leathers, furs, and fluffy textures--especially with the light armor sets. This time, I decided to focus on the Lesser Mark of the West Robe. Like every other OD piece, you have to keep in mind that you're working with muted colors. To keep it simple, I thought dark colors would work best and allow me to mix and match with gear outside the OD sets. The robe itself uses wings in its design (look at the chest area and the hem), which gave me an idea. I had one specific piece in mind, but I needed to find the shoulders to compliment it.

One specific piece, the Cloak of the Raven's Claw (earned from the Sâri-surma T2 challenge at 65) might not be obtainable anymore. Perhaps someone could confirm this unsettling fact for me? I'd hate to see one of the more awesome looking cloaks get removed cosmetically from the tables. If that's the case, those of us that own one should feel fortunate. It also stands to reason that another cloak, the Cloak of Hwîn from the T2 Gortheron fight, has been removed from the OD loot tables. However, it was reincarnated as Brosh's Cloak and dropped from the Great Goblin instance pre-HD. The changes brought by Helm's Deep to the instance clusters eliminated a substantial amount of cosmetic loot and I don't know if any of these cloaks can be obtained any longer. (If you do have these pieces, consider yourself very fortunate!)

Anyway, I needed to find shoulders to bridge the cloak and robe without looking too elvish. Most shoulders that are elvish have some sort of leafy pattern, which generally don't work well with garments designed for the race of men. Luckily, I found one in the BG Guardian set, the Shield-master's shoulders. Granted they had the typical curves and points of elvish shoulders, but the silver etchings and borders felt very neutral. They matched the silvery-grey in the robe and when dyed ered luin blue while also working well with the cloak.
