Lore-master's Staff Skin Collection Pt. 1

As cosmetic weapons have appearing with increasing frequency on this blog, I thought it's time I started sharing the skins I've collected. Having played LOTRO for almost eight years now, I've assembled quite the library. For this entry, I've chosen staves. Unlike other weapons, like swords, axes, bows, and daggers, which are shared among multiple classes, staves are exclusive to Lore-masters. I've found many of them to be wonderfully designed! Most can be crafted. Some can be bartered. As for the rest? You may have guessed it...lots and lots of landscape and instance grinding.

Some of these staves pictured below can come from several sources. I don't remember the exact locations, but I can give you a general idea on the landscape drops based upon their level. If you know of other methods to obtaining these skins, please let me know in the comments below.

This is by no means a comprehensive guide...just a taste of what LOTRO has offered over the years!

    2. Thanks for the suggestion regarding the Misremembered Wizard's Staff! I think I also have that one in my collection. It's just when I got to the twentieth image, I decided to stop. I'm hoping I can collect enough staves to start a second entry, which will include that bartered one.

  2. this is really helpful! I had to throw some nice weapons away back in the day because I needed inventory space, and after I forgot where and what kind of weapons they were to collect again, so thanks for this list :) One staff I don't see (but maybe you have it in the second part) is Hamall's walking stick, a Moria quest reward, tho I know it can be a drop too. Huge iron staff with an iron orb on top

    1. Before cosmetic weapons were introduced, I tossed some of my collection. I regretted it. If it weren't for alts that hadn't done certain quests, I'd never have been able to collect them again. As for Hamall's Walking Stick/Siveleth, you're in luck. I have a second LM staff post scheduled for next Saturday and that one is included, among a dozen others.

  5. Heya, let me say first of all that I really like your blog, a great source of info on LOTRO.

On LM staffs, back in the elder days I had a LM on Laurelin and he used a very special staff, just a simpe design, but what was so great about it was that it dropped leaves as you were running, in the same way that hunters drop leaves when they use their speed boost. I really liked that effect. I think it was a low level drop, certainly below 65 because this guy never made it past Southern Mirkwood.

I no longer have that LM and although I since have leveled up another LM to cap, I never found that staff again. Do you have any knowledge of it? Is it even still in the game?

    1. This is the first time I've heard of such a staff! I'll watch for it as work on low level alts. I'll also ask around too. It's possible someone else could have seen it.

Now you've got me curious :)

  6. This is an amazing post! I'm really curious because I'd like to go through some of the old content and obtain some of the really rare unique weapons like the Elder Staff and Forvengwath's Despair..how many runs did it take you to come across these items? Thanks

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! Forvengwath's Despair was much easier to get than the Elder Staff. Took, maybe, a dozen runs of Barad Gularan to get it? It's been so long. And then I found out the same skin is in the skirmish camp at the Classic vendor. The Elder Staff? Maybe twenty or so runs of Carn Dum? Unless you have alts, those locks keep you from running it multiple times a day, and it can be very frustrating.
